Brad Pitt has confirmed he turned down a role in The Matrix.
Often considered one of the greatest action/Sci-fi movies of all time, The Matrix is a pop culture phenomenon.
In many ways, the role has been defined by Keanu Reeves as the protagonist Neo. However, it could have been so much different according to Brad Pitt.
Brad says he turned down a part on the movie but believes it was fate. For example, he said ‘I really believe it was never mine’ suggesting Keanu was perfect for the role.

It is also worth mentioning there is no indication Brad would have been up for the part of Neo, but it seems like that’s the role he turned down.Image: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Brad_Pitt_PF.jpg
Brad Pitt In The Matrix?
Speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Brad expanded on why Keanu was the ideal choice.
‘It’s not mine. It’s someone else’s and they go and make it. I really do believe in that. I really do,’ said the Hollywood heartthrob, according to People.
‘But I did pass on the Matrix. I took the red pill,’ he said. That witty remark references the colored pills Neo must choose between. A blue pill leaves him in The Matrix while a red pill allows him to leave and enter the real world.
Brad is probably right because The Matrix became a huge success. Certainly, Reeves’ interpretation of Neo is a big part why the movie became such a box office and pop culture hit.
Interestingly, it is famously known that Will Smith was first choice to play Neo. However, the actor turned down the part to star in Wild Wild West, which became a massive flop.Image: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Reuni%C3%A3o_com_o_ator_norte-americano_Keanu_Reeves_(cropped).jpg
As for Brad Pitt, his career was hardly harmed by not starring in the movie. This year, Pitt is nominated for an Oscar for his role of Cliff Boothe in Quentin Trantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.
