Have you ever seen chicken of the trees? Well, you can now try it in Florida. However, be warned that it’s not chicken at all but actually iguana meat.
Certainly, one of the great things about Facebook is you can buy anything (legal) on the Marketplace. Now people in Florida looking to make some extra cash are selling a type of meat called “chicken of the trees”.
However, this is no ordinary source of protein. Instead, it is iguana meat, or “garrobo” as it is known in parts of South America.

According to the Miami Herald people are selling the meat on Facebook, taking advantage of the cold weather in the Sunshine State.

Chicken of the Trees
You may remember last week we discussed a weather warning issued in Florida regarding raining iguanas. When the weather gets too cold, the lizards go cold and stiff in trees and later fall to the ground. It seems people are taking advantage of the situation and catching the lizards, skinning them, and prepping them to eat.
It’s worth noting that iguanas are an invasive species in Florida. For example, there are hundreds of thousands of them and they are harming the native ecosystem.
Iguana Meat
Several listings for Iguana meat have been discovered on Facebook. Both showed the animals skinned and ready to eat, with some seasoning options.

“Not to be cliché, but they tasted like chicken,” @aaronmphillips tweeted. “A reminder Floridians: Iguanas are called “Chicken of the Trees” for a reason. Bon Appétit,” @D1Maingot said.
Let us know about your feelings on the chicken of the trees. Would you ever try iguana meat, and do you think it would really taste like chicken?
