Ladies and gentlemen, it’s official, Walt Disney’s Frozen 2 is a smash hit success.
As expected, the sequel to the 2013’s “Frozen” opened in the United States and worldwide with a massive box office haul.
Starring Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad, Walt Disney’s Frozen 2 secured an excellent $127 million at the box office in the United States. It was even better for the Jennifer Lee/Chris Buck directed movie overseas. Frozen II managed a record-breaking $350 million launch globally.
The movie also helped the movie industry move past several months where revenue has been slow. Over the last weekend, Frozen 2 smashed the worldwide record for the opening of an animated film.

Walt Disney Pixar’s Incredibles 2 was the previous box office animation king with a $242 million launch in 2018. Frozen II’s $350.2 million launch simply walked over that previous record. Cinemagoers showed no hangover from the six years between the first and second Frozen movies.
China’s growing influence on the global box office was in evidence again. Walt Disney’s Frozen II grabbed a $55 million launch in China and the movie is already on course to surpass the first Frozen’s $876 overseas total.
Walt Disney’s Frozen II Continues Studio’s Amazing 2019
With the massive success of Frozen II, Walt Disney is continuing to have an amazing 2019. In fact, it’s the greatest year a studio has enjoyed in the history of movies.
Frozen II will certainly join five other Disney movies that have crossed $1 billion in box office so far in 2019. The five movies that have already passed that milestone are:
- Captain Marvel
- Avengers Endgame (the world’s most successful movie ever)
- Spider-man: Far from Home (a co-production with Sony)
- Toy Story 4
Disney is looking forward to more success as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will arrive in December. It too will almost certainly pass $1 billion and could even overcome $2 billion at the box office.
