Is This Grinch Christmas Tree Scary or Funny?

by Hanna Embry on

Christmas is nearly here, and people are decorating for the holiday season. One mom has built a Grinch Christmas tree as a fun addition to her house. However, the tree has drawn compliments and fear in equal measure.

Themed after the famed Dr. Seuss character, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the tree will undoubtedly turn heads. The character was later played by Jim Carrey in a 2000 movie.

The so-called “Grinchmas” tree was posted to Facebook,  where plenty of people commented post, with 6,000 remarks so far. Many followers praised the work the mom had done, calling it an “excellent” DIY job.

According to the unnamed mother, the Grinch Christmas tree was built from affordable parts. Most Christmas trees have a star at the top, but this special plant has the Grinch.

Elsewhere, it is properly decorated like the holiday season, with red, white, and green baubles, striped candy canes, and even some gingerbread men.

The Grinch sits with his arms and legs wrapped around and his head resting on top. When the image became popular on Facebook, the original poster explained how she bought a Grinch outfit on eBay.

Inspired, she stuffed the suit to fill it out before draping it around the tree. For the head, she used a Grinch mask and placed a Santa hat on top. The DIY job cost little, with all decorations coming from Amazon, eBay, and UK-based retailer Argos.

Scary or Cute?

According to the mom, the tree took 3 hours to complete.

Clearly proud of her work, the mom posted an image of the tree to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group Facebook page. Underneath she wrote the following caption:

“May of took 3 hours but I’m in love. Thanks to my mum, I can’t take all the credit.”

While all member of the group universally praised the craftsmanship, opinions were torn on the effect the Grinchmas tree has. Some called is cute and the “best Christmas tree ever”. Others said they would be trying to do the same, but some posters found the Grinch scary.
