by Luke Jones on

Ever since One Direction went on hiatus in 2016 fans of the band have been desperate for the boys to get back together. On Sunday there was good news as Liam Payne said a One Direction reunion will happen, but he could not say when.

According to Payne, a One Direction reunion is coming, “for sure”. However, he also confessed that the five members of the boyband were never “massive mates”. Therefore, it seems the band was just a business relationship.

Importantly, that could mean a One Direction reunion is more likely as fans are still demanding it. If there’s money available, the band will likely see a reason to get back together.

On Channel 4 show Sunday Brunch, Payne spoke about

“I think at some point we will get back together,” he said. “I think we will, for sure.

“While I don’t know when that is yet but, all I know is there are at least two years while everyone’s just released new music where you have to go and promo and do all of that.

“There are at least two years.”

One Direction Reunion Rumors

Fans have been speculating about a reunion for years, meanwhile, the band has stayed quiet. While Payne admits a reunion is inevitable, he is concentrating on his solo album, firstly. That disc has just been released.

Payne catapulted to fame alongside the rest of One Direction, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. After meeting on the 2010 series of the X Factor, the band became one of the most successful in the world.

Malik departed the band in 2015 and moved into a solo career. Consequently, the rest of the band finally went on hiatus in 2016. However, Payne insists there is “no bad blood” between any of the five members.

Solo Successes

All five of the One Direction boys have enjoyed varying degrees of solo success. But Payne says he does not see the other guys often. For example, he recently saw Styles for the first time in years.

“I actually saw him for the first time in three years yesterday,” he said. “We hadn’t seen each other in a long, long time.

“It was really nice, he’s still the same boy as when I left him, really sweet… he’s such a lovely lad.”

Payne added: “I think people have a misconception that we were all just massive mates, that’s just not the case.”
