According to sources, Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, is the most popular streamed TV show in the United States, surpassing Stranger Things.
Anyone who charted the success of Stranger Things over the years will understand what an achievement that is. Over its three seasons, Stranger Things has been a pop culture phenom and influenced shows and movies.
Of course, few franchises impact pop culture quite like Star Wars. If any TV show was going to beat Stranger Things, a Star Wars series was a good bet.
The Mandalorian is more popular than Stranger Things
Over the last 21 weeks (since season 3 arrived), Stranger Things topped the Parrot Analytics’ weekly list showing the most-watched streaming shows. During the week November 17 to November 23, The Mandalorian achieved over 100 million demand expressions. In contrasts, Stranger Things managed 81 million.
So-called “demand expressions” are what Parrot Analytics measures. It is a standardized unit for highlighting a user’s desire to watch a show. Demand expressions also factor viewership and engagement across streaming services.
“While demand is a metric that should not be confused with subscriber numbers, this is a strong indication that the ‘Star Wars’ series is driving a lot of sign-ups to the recently-debuted Disney Plus service,” a Parrot Analytics representative said.
Disney Plus success
So, The Mandalorian is more popular than Stranger Things. It’s an early sign of success for Disney Plus.
Disney Plus has been a massive success during its first month of availability. Within a day of its launch, the subscription service had over 10 million sign-ups.
